Who I Am: From a Masked YouTuber to Twitch

· The Streamer

I'm one of the better-known names in Spanish-speaking YouTube and Twitch, with a straight face, quick jokes and a chat that never sleeps. Here's a short guide to the person behind the merch, for new viewers and old ones.

Who am I?

I'm AuronPlay, the online name of Raúl Álvarez Genes, a YouTuber and streamer born in 1988 in Badalona, near Barcelona. People also simply call me Auron.

Where does the name come from?

From a video game: Auron is a character in Final Fantasy X.

How did I start?

I created my YouTube channel in 2006, and in my early videos I hid my face behind a mask. From 2012 I made the videos that defined my style: short, sharp criticism of whatever the internet was talking about, with simple editing and no script.

When did I move to Twitch?

I opened my Twitch channel in September 2019. Since then my streams have mixed chatting, reacting and gaming with big group events, such as Tortillaland, a Minecraft roleplay series I organised and starred in, and a Squid Game Twitch Rivals event in January 2022. More on those, and my books, in the projects post.

Why wear it?

My community runs on catchphrases and memes, from ¡Tengo miedo! ("I'm scared!") to zumito. Wearing one is the easiest way to spot someone from the chat in the room.

Want to wear one of those jokes? Shop the AuronPlay collection.
